From March to September, shortly before dusk, people line across the Congress Avenue Bridge to observe the sudden flight of 1.5 million bats on their nightly quest to hunt for insects. Watching the bats is one of the most spectacular and unusual tourist attractions in Texas. Each night observers board sold-out, sunset cruises to view the fantastic blanket of bats emerge from the crevices underneath the bridge.
Lady Bird Lake Trail, sometimes referred to as the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail is a busy place full of fitness classes, walkers, runners, bikers, and meandering observers. This pet-friendly trail offers something for everyone with views of the water, wildlife, live entertainment, and a bronzed statue of the famous late Austinite, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Lady Bird Lake is also a popular recreation area for non-motorized watercraft, such as electric paddle-wheel cruise boats, kayaks, canoes, dragon boats, and rowing shells.
